Don't wait until you're done with school to make career moves. These are some ideas on how you can position yourself during these periods. By bringing some creativity to your journey, you can build transferrable skills that will help you succeed in the future.
Resume work
Regardless of whether an employer reviews your resume in detail, your resume should demonstrate your professional writing skills. Etsy has amazing templates to get you started. You can use this template to input your experiences working part-time, during the summer, or in extracurricular activities. Volunteer work can enhance your resume as well. Sometimes it's the unpaid work that makes the biggest impact. All that remains is customizing and adding keywords, simplifying the application process.
Side Gig
While you are in school, I recommend starting a side business. Making money this way allows you to avoid trailing job applications. You will also be able to make your own schedule around classes and social events. Experiences like this are wonderful to discuss in interviews. Running your own small business will give you insight into what it's like for others in a similar position further down the road than you are.
Examples of Side Businesses
Starting a small business doesn't have to be capital-intensive. There are free tools out there including Instagram, TikTok, etc. where you can market and grow for free.
